- On page 4, how does Zits feel about himself? Explain using textual evidence. Then, write a sentence that uses hyperbole.
- On page 10, describe what is happening. How does Zits feel and why?
- On page 18, what kind of relationship does Zits have with Officer Dave? What does Zits mean when he says, “The wounded always recognize the wounded”?
- On pages 29-30, why does the white kid say “This is my name” and pull out guns? What does he mean? Why would he name his guns Justice?
- On page 33, “When people think they’re going to die, they all scream like nine-year-old girls, how is this dark humor?
1) Zits doesn’t like his appearance. It says, “fourteen sits on my forehead. Twenty-two on my left cheek. Six on my right cheek. Five on my chin. A huge North Star zit shines brightly on the end of my nose. I can’t even count the Milky Way on my back. There are bullion’s and billions of those pimple-stars. … you can’t actually die of zits. But you can die of shame…”
2) Edgar and Zits are racing mini planes and Zits keeps beating Edgar and Edgar is getting upset because of it. Zits felt proud because he explains that if he was a smarter kid or diplomat then he would let him win but he doesn’t want to lose. And then Edgar crashed and ruined the plane and then Zits felt scared and sad. I know because he said he felt that way.
3) Zits has a very close bond with Officer Dave. What he meant when he said that, “The wounded always recognize the wounded” was you can tell when someone is mentally abused or hurt because of the way they act, speak and carry themselves and because of that others of the same experience can spot it because that is the same way they carry themselves.
4) The white kid says, “this is my name” and pulls out guns because his name is represented by the guns. He names his guns and himself Justice because he liked that name since it represented something strong and it’s something you earn.
5)This is dark humor because it’s meant to be funny and based off of a happy topic kind of but there is a much darker and deeper meaning behind it.
