  1. On page 5, find a simile that describes the narrator’s father. Explain what he means.
  2. Describe the tone at the beginning of the narrative by identifying specific words  Compare it to the tone at the end of the narrative.
  3. Where does the tone change? How does it change?
  4. Zits names characters according to their appearance or actions: discuss the method of naming characters. In other words, how does he come up with their names?
  5. How does Zits define himself at the beginning of the novel?
  6. Predict how you Zits’ story or journey will be affected by an absent father or living with a foster family.
  7. Are you ashamed of anything about yourself? Why or why not? How would you describe your perception of yourself?
